Action: Kim will continue to report about the work of this committee.

  1. Topic: Report from ABC Representative—Joelle

Discussion: Joelle has attended two ABC meetings.  She gave a summary of our last minutes.  She mentioned that both meetings have been short—about a half hour long.

Action: Joelle will attend the next ABC meeting.

  1. Topic: March 8 Ed Camp—Jeff

Discussion: The Ed Camp will be via Zoom on March 8 from 4:30-5:30 pm.  The topics will be Crucial Conversations (Kim), Yuja (Rebecca), and Redesigning your Canvas Course (Jeff).  There was discussion about how to get the word out for this event.  Farrell will include it in the Faculty Newsletter.

Action: Jeff will send Rebecca an email that she will send out to Adjunct Faculty and Farrell.

  1. Topic: New Adjunct Council Representatives—Rebecca

Discussion: Rebecca and Kim drafted an email that was sent to the deans of all the divisions to request volunteers to serve on the Adjunct Council.  The deans will get back to Rebecca by March 15 with names.  Rebecca expressed concern that there may not be many volunteers.  One dean felt that no one from his department would be able to volunteer if meetings are during the daytime working hours.  Discussion continued about whether more than one person from a division volunteers, could those volunteers be the at-large representatives?  Current representatives can represent their divisions again if they desire to do so.  The bylaws allow for representatives to serve two terms.  Discussion of bylaws led to the need to review and update them at a future meeting.

Action: We will see how many people volunteer.  Reviewing and updating the bylaws will be added to the April 5 agenda.

  1. Topic: Fall Synergized Event

Discussion: It was agreed that we should have this event.  We need new topics for the sessions.  To incorporate new Adjunct Council representatives, this topic will be discussed more in April.

Action: This discussion will be on the April 5 agenda.

  1. Topic: Instructor Training for Handling Disruptive Students

Discussion: This topic was brought up by an Adjunct Faculty member.  We all felt that faculty members should receive more tools for handling disruptive students.  Discussion continued about the definition of “disruptive” and that it needs to be broad, including not only behavior but also things like clothing or food that causes disruption to the learning and/or teaching environment.  Farrell gave Justin McMillan’s name ([email protected]) as a resource for Adjunct Faculty facing disruptive students.  He is the Coordinator for Students Rights and Responsibilities.  He would be a good person to facilitate a discussion at the Fall Synergized event.

Action: Include this topic in the Fall Synergized event.

  1. Next meeting date and time: Wednesday, April 5 from 3:15-4:15 via Zoom.
