  1. Topic: Review/Approve minutes from the last meeting

Action: Members approved the meeting minutes.

  1. Topic: Welcome New Representatives

Discussion: We offered a big welcome to Chancee Craig (Communications), Caitlin Jeffrey (Art History), Rachel DiCamillo (Art History), Meredith Gibbons (Communications) for being willing to serve on the Adjunct Council.  Their positions officially start on July 1.

Action: None

  1. Topic: Adjunct Summer Meet and Greet—Ann

Discussion: Ann offered several ideas for a Meet and Greet this summer.  She suggested Rye as a venue because the Chef de Cuisine is on the Culinary Advisory Board.  She encouraged everyone to personally invite Adjunct Faculty members whom we know to attend.  Rebecca will help Ann with the planning.

Action: The Meet and Greet will be Tuesday night, June 27 from 5:30-7:00 pm.  Rebecca will send out a Save the Date email to the Adjunct Faculty members.

  1. Topic: SynergizED 23 Planning

Discussion: Meredith, Joelle (via email), Kim, and Rebecca volunteered to work on the event.  Monday, August 14 was suggested as the date.  One presentation topic suggestion was Turnitin and its AI detection.  We need to solicit other ideas.

Action: The group will meet to plan this event.

  1. Topic: Pullias & AAC&U Webinar Report—Farrell

Discussion: Farrell reported about the webinar she attended.  The Delphi Award was given to two schools.  The first-place school created a support institution.  The second-place school changed policies related to Adjunct Faculty.  She said that JCCC is already doing some of the same actions as the winning schools, like the Center for Teaching.  Funding for four Adjunct Faculty members to become Fellows in the CFT has been approved.  Adjunct Fellows will earn $500 for a semester of work.  Farrell’s goal is for JCCC to win a Delphi Award in the future.

Action: This topic requires further discussion.

  1. Topic: College Council Representative Report—Kim

Discussion: Kim is serving on a communications committee that is under College Council.  The committee has been given permission to hire an outside consultant.

Action: None

  1. Topic: ABC Representative—Joelle (via email)

Discussion: Dr. McCloud expressed his disapproval of some four-year schools in Kansas—Pitt State, for example—starting to offer two-year AA/completer degrees.  A subcommittee is looking into AI sources like ChatGPT and how that is related to plagiarism.

Action: None

  1. Topic: Possible Bylaw Updates, Revisions, Changes

Discussion: Kim brought up the fact that the current Adjunct Council has been unable to follow some of the bylaws, especially Article IX that states “Adjunct Council representatives will be compensated for their time served on the Adjunct Council…”  Rebecca brought up other issues like Article X that states “Meetings will be held twice a month” and the election process being moot because of not having enough candidates.

Action: This will be a discussion for the new Adjunct Council members at the next meeting.

  1. Next meeting date and time: Wednesday, July 26 from 9:00 am-10:00 am via Zoom
