Caleb and I started developing an introduction to AI course. After extensive search I enrolled in few Int to AI courses. Most of them has no labs, we came to the conclusion to develop the course based on Microsoft Azure AI certification 201. Microsoft has developed 13 labs for this certification. Microsoft Azure AI service is a platform for AI development. We tested the labs, they are not well written but this is our best option. Azure AI Service use python and they have several tools to develop AI Solution. The course will be offered Summer 25 and Caleb will teach it first. I intend to start preparing for the certification exam. I did completed the AI 900 Certification exam on Fen 24th 2025 and my next step will be to take the certification exam for AI 102.
CCNA exam 200-301 Dec 31st 2024
CCNA exam summary Dec 31st, 2024
- 89 questions including three sims, time is 120 minutes, and it is not easy to finish the exam on time. I did not manage to answer the last six questions.
- The three sims are easy, but they need time, one sim include the configuration of trunk, vlans, and lacp EtherChannel’s. The switches used in the sim, to configure the trunk you need to specify the encapsulation first. The second part of the sim is to enable lldp on a single interface. I took the exam using a small laptop and I found it is not a good idea to take it from home because the proctor can waste some of your time by keep interrupting you. The other sim is configuring ospf on the interfaces without using the network statement. The second part of the sim is to configure a router to be the DR for an area. They did not specify the interface, and the topology included three routers connected to each other directly.
- There were five questions about WLAN controller and AP. Although I read the two wireless chapters several times, answering those questions was not easy. What option is used to limit the number of users on AP is one question. Another question is the mode if you want to connect the AP to two VLANs. Two questions about WAP3 features.
- Few questions about SDN, JASON, quality of service, machine learning, virtualization, and cloud.
- Several questions (6-10) about static, default, and static floating routing. All these questions asking to find the next hop ip address. These questions are easy, but they require time, and you should be able to do subnetting quickly on your head. If you take the exam from home, you cannot use paper/pencil or a second monitor.
- Based on my observation we may need to purchase at least one WLAN controller and three AP for the lab and develop one or more lab which focuses on configuring different options of the WLAN controller.
- I did not see many questions from IT 141 curriculum. However, most of the questions about static and default routing require some sort of subnetting.
- Although the curriculum has two chapters about ACL, there were a single MC question about ACL and it was not clear. They gave an access list and the question is to find the statement which allow a secure connection to the router. The ACL did not include a statement to permit port 22 but there were a statement to permit port 23. However, there were a choice for permitting port 22 and one permitting port 23.

What is New for Spring 2023
I spent most of the winter break working on IT Scripting course (IT 202) on Canvas. I developed solutions to each assignment, and developed mid term and final skill assessment for the course. This is the first semester we adopted Toni Gaddis textbook. The Python Institute curriculum hosted by Cisco Academy is very hard to follow, yet I found one good thing, their projects has no solutions on the internet, while Gaddis textbook exercises has solutions on the internet. I also learned how to create new labs using NDG netlab. I created nine new labs for IT 204 (ENAS) and six labs for IT (206). Although NDG developed a manual for creating new labs but they never explained the vlan issue. I found the vlan issue is explained very briefly in NDG POD design. I did search on the internet to see if there is any information about developing new labs using netlab but did not find any thing. I will create a tutorial and publish it before the Spring 23 semester start. I also intend to develop mid term skill assessment for IT 204 and IT 206 utilizing the classroom equipment.
IT Scripting Fall 21
Started teaching IT scripting in fall 21. I used Ubuntu 20 and Python 3 and follow Cisco Networking Academy Python Course which is mapped to Python Institute Certification PCAP. In summary, the curriculum cover a lot of materials which is not easy to cover in one semester. No power point is provided, the assignments are too hard for the student, they require thinking. The curriculum is not well written and some times hard to read. It may be a good idea to switch to a textbook starting out with Python written by Toni Gaddis.
New Course: IT 175 Cybersecurity Fall 19
I will start teaching a new course called Cybersecurity Essentials, fall of 2019. The course map to the ConpTIA Security+ certification exam. I reviewed three books and selected Pearson IT Certification CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 Cert Guide by David L Prowse (ISBN13: 978-0-7897-5912-2). I found the book is comprehensive and covered all the topics covered by the EC-Council CEHv9 exam. I am going to use NDG Security+ lab series. Most of these labs were originally developed by NISGTC. I did the twenty five labs step by step and found they are comprehensive and they overlap with the ethical hacking course labs. I believe the course will be very challenging for the students at this level, because most of the lab are Linux based. I also believe the course will be very popular and can replace the ethical hacking course. However, CompTIA developed a new certification exam called PenTest+ which is designed to follow the security+ exam.
Hello JCCC Vistors
Welcome to my ePortfolio at Johnson County Community College Sites.
If you have any feedback please feel free to post your comments. I have included all my student evaluations at JCCC including the comments. I also included the original PDF files. I will keep updating the evaluations each semester. I have just posted Fall 18 feedback and noticed a lot of comments about the ethical hacking course labs. I will be looking for new labs/textbook for Fall 19. I used NISGCT Ethical Hacking lab series developed by Moraine Valley CC in 2015 and implemented in NDG Netlab+. However, new hacking methods are developed and some of the Labs are considered outdated. NDG developed Ethical hacking lab series but they are too brief. I have used two different textbooks written to address the EC-Council CEHv9 exam but I was not happy with either textbook. The review questions at the end of each chapter are poor and some answers are not correct. I even enrolled in an Ethical Hacking Course at another community college to see the labs/textbook they are using. I will start teaching the cybersecurity course (CompTIA Security+) in the fall of 2019. I found the course overlap with the ethical hacking course and can replace the ethical hacking course in the future. I will use the Security+ NDG lab which I found comprehensive.
