SooC52 – Night Sky

This didn’t come out exactly like I wanted, but it was close. I’d give it another go later in the week, but I’m not confident that I’ll get another clear night. If the weather cooperates, I may post an update later, but for now, here’s my shot and my thoughts on its creation.

I’ve taken star trail images in the past, but I’ve never tried to put myself in them. What I wanted was an image of me presenting the Universe. Unfortunately, I failed to take into account how bright the northern sky would be. As a result, instead of me in front of the swirling starry night, it turned out to be ghost me.

  1. Cool shot even if you became a ghost, but actually that is part of what makes the image cool to so…. Think will be hard to do what you want without doing a composite.

  2. I really like the “star vortex.” Very cool shot with the ghost you and the street that it appears to be in the background. Not sure why I didn’t see this until just now. Very nicely done!

  3. This is a really cool shot Doug. I like doing star trails, but unfortunately being in the UK means out latitude makes Polaris very high up in the sky, and without a super wide lens it’s hard to get into the shot. I’m also secretly glad that you’ve got a ghost in your image 😉 It’s the same problem I had with the light painting one the other week! I damn near cooked my friend with the strobe and I still couldn’t overpower the amount of ambient light that the sky gave off.
