  • Call to Order
    • Bob Carney called the meeting to order at 3:06pm.
  • Open Forum
    • No comments.
  • Vote on Minutes from the April Meeting
    • Patrick Lafferty moved to approve the April minutes. Frankie Wainwright seconded.
    • No discussion.
    • Motion carries.
  • Senate President’s Remarks
    • Bob thanked Jessica, Tatiana, Sheryl for stepping in and filling open spots on Faculty Senate Exec this spring. He also thanked Patrick and Theresa for all of their help on Faculty Senate Exec.
  • Shared Governance – Barry Bailey’s Presentation
    • Barry Bailey, professor of Library Sciences, presented on the history of shared governance at JCCC, along with a comparative analysis of popular models of shared governance. He presented his findings and discussed faculty governance.
  • Patrick Lafferty moved that Faculty Senate pursue language for a motion to be voted on before faculty leave for the semester pertaining to the faculty governance model put forth by Barry Bailey.
    • Motion was not seconded.
  • Patrick Lafferty moved that Faculty Senate pursue language for a motion to be voted on May 20 – 22 at 5pm pertaining to the faculty governance model put forth by Barry Bailey.
    • Seconded by Suzanne Smith
      • Motion fails.
  • Beth Edmonds moved that The Faculty Senate is committed to continue work in a collaborative effort towards faculty shared governance using Barry Bailey’s model as a starting point.
    • Sheryl Hadley seconded.
      • No discussion.
      • Motion carries.
  • Senate Election : New Officers
    • Susie Gibbar presented on behalf of the election committee.
    • Susie Gibbar made a motion we accept by acclimation the nominees presented as the new exec board as they are running unopposed and that we do not have to vote.
    • Justin Dunham seconded.
      • No discussion.
      • Motion carries.
  • The following are the new officers and executive council of Faculty Senate:
    • Faculty Senate President – Beth Edmonds
    • Faculty Senate Vice-President – Frankie Wainwright
    • Faculty Senate Secretary – Justin Dunham
    • At-Large Full-time Faculty – Patrick Lafferty
    • At-Large Adjunct Faculty – Madison Huber-Smith
  • Vacant Senate positions will be addressed in August.
  • Adjournment
    • Todd Watson moved to adjourn the meeting.
    • Patrick Lafferty seconded.
      • Motion carries.
  • Meeting ends at 4:50pm.
