ATTENTION STUDENTS – 2017 Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship Program

Students pursuing careers in the Skilled Trades (electronic systems, HVAC, plumbing, welding, automotive, construction, facilities maintenance or other industrial trades), Public Safety (first responder, law enforcement-city, county, state, or prison guard, firefighter, fire safety, emergency medical tech, emergency management and disaster preparedness) or Supply Chain (supply chain management, transportation, distribution or logistics) are eligible to apply. The application with additional required documentation is also attached.

This scholarship is available to students in skilled trades, public service or supply chain programs. It is a $2,000 award for the upcoming academic year, awarded in August and late December. The funding comes to the school and is put on the students account versus going directly to them.

The deadline to apply is Friday March 31.  At this time I have no applicants and this program has awarded students from JCCC since 2012-2013.  Grainger must receive the information by Friday, March 31, so please return the information with all accompanying documents can be returned to me (2nd floor of Student Center) by Thursday, March 30 at 5pm. -Cindy Kleinsorge

This is an Assistant Director of Certification position, which will be responsible for the overall development, security, maintenance and revisions of certification exams administered to emergency response personnel. Position is the state’s fire service certification manager in accordance with Louisiana state law RS §1542 and 1543, and serves as the accreditation manager for same. Position will also be responsible for developing and administering a budget for the certification program.
Job Responsibitilities:
Develop written direction related to various aspects of program area, with the Director. Develops short / long-range program goals & objectives in conjunction with Director & other program areas. Supervises record keeping / enrollment / program delivery performance data. Carries out assigned duties & responsibilities using appropriate computer hardware / software. (25%)
Directs and supervises the certification processes for Louisiana’s municipal and industrial fire services and other users. Responsible for test security, certification application, testing and completion records, scheduling of testing and evaluations on and off-site, electronic record keeping and data management, all in accordance with accreditation requirements and internal procedures. Insures proper and safe certification testing conditions. Develops reports that analyze current certification testing performance, trends, and projected service needs. (20%)
Develops, maintains and supervises full-time staff and WAE proctors trained to administer written and / or practical examinations for certification programs where appropriate. Works in conjunction with the Director of FETI in establishing performance expectations on an annual basis. Monitors and evaluates the performance of full-time and WAE staff. Maintains a list of adjunct instructors approved to administer certification tests. Oversees the training of Lead Evaluators. (15%)
Responsible for the development and administration of a budget for the Certification / Accreditation program area in consultation with the Director of FETI. Analyzes anticipated income and expenses associated with activities related to the program area for each fiscal year. Monitors status of expenses and income throughout teach fiscal year. Makes necessary adjustments in program area activities as needed throughout the year based upon predetermined financial objectives established for the program area. (15%)
Administers the accreditation of the State certification processes with the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard). Maintains updates test banks, monitors changes in standards and accreditation processes, updates certification testing processes to current standards and monitors manipulative and cognitive examination for validity, reliability, and security. Participates in the accreditation meetings and site reviews. (10%)
Promotes the fire and emergency certification program; establishes working relationships with chiefs and training officers throughout state to ensure compliance with certification requirements. Works closely with the committees and / or organizations representing the target audience for specific certification programs during the development of those programs when appropriate. (10%)
Coordinates with FETI Training Managers regarding curriculum revisions, and provides guidance for compliance to national standard Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) and/or performance objectives that are utilized in certification testing. (5%)
Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of FETI.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Related Topic (Fire Science, Fire Safety, Fire Service Leadership, Mgmt or Admin), Emergency Services Mgmt, Educational Assessment, Adult or Vocational Education, Human Resources Mgmt, Public Admin and 8 yrs Fire Department Member with at least 2 years as a full-time fire officer or supervisor / manager of a fire service training or fire related educational provider.
Note: 4 years’ experience in supervising fire service certification or training programs may substitute for the required eight years as a member of a fire department.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Fire Related Topic (Fire Science, Fire Safety, Fire Service Leadership, Mgmt or Admin), Emergency Services Mgmt, Educational Assessment, Adult or Vocational Education, Human Resources Mgmt, Public Admin and 9+ yrs Fire Department Member with at least 2 years as a full-time fire officer or supervisor / manager of a fire service training or fire related educational provider. AdditionaI experience supervising fire certification, training or educational programs may substitute for degree topics listed. Experience in the development / use of evaluation instruments, test item analysis, interpretation of results; question validity, reliability and disparate impact. Supervisory experience at IFSC or ProBoard accredited certification agency
Special / Physical Qualifications:
Occasional evenings and weekends, some out of state travel primarily for accreditation related activities. Due to the nature of the position and / or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug / alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
Certifications / License Requirements:
IFSAC or ProBoard Instructor II: Certification from accredited fire service agency.
Note: Coursework and equivalent hours of instruction may substitute with certification in one year.
