China history and language: found pics

Found some some interesting images Re: China this week.  Will need to find my notes on Zheng He.   We discussed the scale of the ship(s) in past Title 6 meetings, but seeing this helps.

(Found at http://www.slightlywarped.com/crapfactory/curiosities/2013/january/images/20-History.jpg).

The Map below really appeals to the Chinese language scholar (lazy and disorganized about it though I may be).  It’s literal translation for the geography – note: it’s likely many Chinese people don’t realize what the literal translations mean – that’d be like expecting Americans to know “Kansas” means “people of the south wind.”

Also, translating 中  in the name for China (中國) as middle, is debatable.   It also means center, and the name for China comes from the belief  of it’s people that it is the center of the world. (Which we all know is really Kansas, Right?).
