Take advantage of the growing demand in the Health IT field.

Advisory Board Spotlight

Faculty Spotlight: Sara Bible, MIRM Adjunct Professor

What excites you most about Health IT?

There’s always something new to learn/master.

What are employers looking for when hiring for this field?

Experience.  However, since there is an increased need for coders and not enough experienced applicants looking to change jobs, I look at the coding program the applicant graduated from.  Unfortunately not all coding programs have a positive reputation and can play into an applicant getting an interview.

What are the two most important skills a candidate can have?

Computer/technology experience – with many positions telecommuting, candidates need to have a basic understanding of troubleshooting simple computer issues

Flexibility – due to ever changing processes and organizational needs

What trends do you see or anticipate?

Continued increase in need for educated coders.  There aren’t enough experienced coders to fulfill the needs which gives new grads great career opportunities!

Why do you like teaching Health IT?

I love to connect what’s being taught in the classroom to “real world” experience.  I believe this practical application increases the students understanding of the topic.
