Sabbaticals
Spring 2020
Completed an apprenticeship with Bob Atkins of Skylab Letterpress with continued into the summer due to COVID. The primary objective was to learn the letterpress process, platemaking and Heidelberg press operation. During that time, I helped Bob with his commercial accounts and completed numerous personal projects while I also helped to print the graduating recruitment showcase materials for the 2021 “Harmonia” print materials. I consulted with other colleges where letterpress is taught and developed a special topics 292 letterpress class for JCCC that is being taught spring of 2022.

Fall 2011
Completed branding materials for recruiting JCCC Graphic Design students. Includes a recruitment catalogue (print and digital), YouTube videos of alumni profiles, department Facebook portal, and digital student work gallery for the JCCC Graphic Design website. Also discussed design curriculum with faculty from Carnegie Mellon University, Ringling College of Art + Design, American University, Maryland Institute College of Art and University of Colorado.

Fall 2003
Completed letterpress artwork for exhibition working with handset metal type and lithograph illustrations working at the Lawrence Art Center.

1994-1995
Completed a Master of Fine Arts in Design Theory at the University of Kansas. Worked on my thesis and completed design work.

Dutch Exchange Program Participant, Fall 2011 and Spring 2012
JCCC partners with the ROC Association for Dutch International ConneXions (RADIX). Completed a two-week professional and cultural exchange with a paired faculty member from Breda, Netherlands. Fall semester, hosted exchange partner, and during spring semester traveled to hosts home. I met with graphic design faculty from St Joost University, Utrecht School of the Arts, and Sint Lucas Art Academy discussing teaching pedagogy and design curriculum. I also visited several museums in the Netherlands and Belgium.
