A conference held at Johnson County Community College in October, 2017.
This project was supported by the Secondary Education, Two-Year Postsecondary Education, and Agriculture in the K-12 Classroom (SPECA) Challenge Grant Program of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, USDA, Grant #12122248. The title of the grant was “Building Bridges for Sustainable Agriculture Education in Kansas.”
This site houses a record of those proceedings, as well as a continuing process for meeting the goals of establishing a collaborative network among all stakeholders to share resources in supporting sustainable agriculture education at community colleges throughout Kansas, and developing a longer term initiative to develop curriculum and launch an Associate Degree at interested institutions which will build a bridge to continuing education in sustainable agriculture. Our hope is that through this project not only will pathways ultimately be built for new and beginning farmers to learn ways of farming that will not only sustain themselves and their families, but also will serve to sustain their communities and the land, as farmers have traditionally done through history.
