Welcome to Staff Development!

Extra Effort Awards – May 1, 2020

Larry Allen, Senior, Buyer – Campus Facilities, Procurement – Nominated by Jim Feikert
A huge thanks to Larry Allen, Senior Buyer in Procurement Services, for searching near and far, early and late to find PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). As JCCC works through scenarios and strategies for how to come back to work, Larry has been busy daily with updates for what to purchase and how much to purchase. Larry has been busy sourcing masks, gloves, sanitizer, wipes, and other miscellaneous supplies to help meet the safety needs of employees and students. This is no easy task as there are many different guidelines and differing opinions on the various types of PPE. Finding items and placing orders now is critical to meet lead times, which Larry has been able to do. Thank you, Larry, for quickly becoming an expert with these items and for using your resources to locate viable PPE for JCCC!

Molly Baumgardner, Coordinator, College Communications – Nominated by Sandra Warner
Molly aligned the COVID-19 related information being submitted to the Incident Response Team with the College Values (Integrity, Collaboration, Responsiveness, and Leadership) in a way that recognizes departmental efforts campus wide during this challenging time.  With so much student, faculty, staff and community support happening remotely, the biggest challenge has been to find a way to raise awareness and keep us all connected in a meaningful way.  Molly has done a beautiful job of taking “what” we are doing and connecting it to our “why” through this shift to online everything!

Amy Becker, Marketing Coordinator, Creative Marketing & Content Dept. – Nominated by Sherri Hanysz
Since the college closed, I have been tasked with getting forms within the Registrar’s Office converted to a digital format in order to serve students remotely.  If it was not for Amy Becker, this task would have been impossible.  She took many of our paper forms and created Dynamic Forms where students can authenticate the forms through their MyJCCC login. She has helped us set up the forms so that we have ways to route a form from a student to counseling to registration, all in a seamless transition. I was even able to sit on a call with a representative from Dynamic Forms who was showing Amy how to create new workflow patterns for forms we never thought we could get routed to multiple stakeholders. Amy is very professional and never once seemed frustrated with the multiple changes we went through on testing all the forms and while getting feedback from stakeholders.  Just a quick shout out to Julie Neemeyer, Amy Becker is a ‘gem’, thank you for sharing her with me!

Alisa Bentley, Administrative Assistant, Student Services – Nominated by Gayle Callahan
Alisa has been reviewing and processing refund appeals for students who have encountered issues with the revised course format.  In the first month, about 200 students have been refunded for spring classes. When the student also has book charges, financial aid, third party or an amount due, she reaches out to Financial Aid, Bookstore and/or the Bursar Office to ensure the refund is properly refunded to the student or their sponsor.  Thanks for collaborating with the appropriate offices!

Kelly Cole, Financial Aid Compliance Officer FWS – Nominated by Alisa Bentley
Kelly will stop at nothing to help her fellow co-workers.  I was having a problem that wasn’t even Financial Aid related and she (and her HUSBAND!) kept trying to find a solution until the issue was resolved.  In doing so, she helped me, and other members of my team streamline a process that was giving us problems from working remotely. Kelly goes above and beyond her job and is always one to reach out and provide help when she knows others are struggling.  Kelly Cole, people…. she is the BEST!

Ashley Conner, Administrative Assistant – Nominated by Susan Hoffman
So thankful to have had Ashley’s technical assistance during a training class.  She helped monitor the chat room and saved the day when there was a problem with sound to the video!  Thanks for volunteering to help me! You really made an impact on everyone’s day!!

Lindsey Cramer, Lead Teacher/Coordinator, Hiersteiner Child Development Center – Nominated by Patty Swartzel
At our Zoom meeting I said that I had not been able to order bread or yeast for pick up. Lindsey said she would give me some yeast. She messaged me the next day and put it on her porch for me to pick up. She sent me a photo of the packets of yeast under a rock and said, “Just like Amazon.” She made my day!

Sasha Gluhovsky, Assistant Professor, Business Accounting – Nominated by Mike Megaris
Sasha contacted me early in the conversion from F2F to Online classes – offering to help me convert my classes.  Over several days, a few Zoom sessions, emails and phones calls, totaling more than just a couple hours, she took the time to show me everything she used and how she put it together in her online classes, and walking me through the set-up in my classes.   Thanks to you, Sasha, my classes were up and running from day 1!

Sherri Hanysz, Associate Registrar, Records – Nominated by Alisa Bentley
I appreciate Sherri’s ability and willingness to jump in and help when an issue arises.  She is very knowledgeable and doesn’t stop working on the problem until she finds an answer, even though her plate is very full right now. She is our “go-to” person for anything regarding Banner, imaging…well, just anything we can’t figure out and she is always there for us with a smile and a solution. Sherri is truly one of JCCC’s finest!

Jean Keating, Dining Services Accounting Clerk/Administrative Assistant – Nominated by Brandi Soderberg
Jean has worked hard in making sure that everything is kept up to date so that everything is easier for when we go back. She has made sure everyone is paid properly during this time and made corrections to people’s pay that were incorrect.  When the police academy called needing to feed their cadets, she ensured that it happened so that they didn’t have to worry about how they were going to do that. She is also making sure that the regulations are in place as well as the needed equipment for when dining services opens.

Chris Leeson, Senior Enterprise Desktop/Application Administrator – Nominated by Anna-Marie Beck
During the COVID-19 pandemic, students have not been permitted into clinical sites, but the school was provided with records for students to practice with. Chris made it possible for students to access EEG recordings using VLabs. With Chris’ help and support, our students are from one of two NDT schools in the country that have access to complete EEG records that they can manipulate.

Georgia Livingston, Administrative Assistant, Records – Nominated by Alisa Bentley
Georgia is a Super Woman!  She is always up for a challenge and keeps a positive attitude through it all.  She is cross trained in many areas which makes her invaluable to many of us. She is always there offering help and willing to take on an extra load to help make us all that more successful during this pandemic.
