Welcome to Staff Development!

Extra Effort & Team Effort Awards – March 12, 2021

Megan Casey, Bursar, Bursar Office – Nominated by Kim Steinmetz
Megan is one of the most helpful partners we have. She helps us with payment for our insurance and it’s always a difficult process and one that requires a lot of back and forth. Megan always engages pleasantly and understands our need to review this list several times. She is a patient and kind partner. She went above and beyond assisting us with this requirement. Thank you, Megan.

Dessa Crum, IISS Coordinator, IISS – Nominated by Kim Steinmetz
Dessa worked incredibly hard to get our insurance list completed this semester. The pandemic added challenges as we had to remove students that we wouldn’t normally remove. Dessa also had to repeat the matching process several times as needed by our insurer. This complex and stressful process was handled expertly by Dessa. The students benefited from having Dessa work so hard on it!

Sherri Hanysz, Associate Registrar, Records – Nominated by Samuel Sommerville
For the last three years Sherri has always been super-efficient while responding to requests that allow me to place our students in the correct level of foreign language classes. Her fast turnaround time allows me to get back to our students in an effective way. And she does all this with a super friendly predisposition!

Jeff Hoyer, Executive Director Space Management, Scheduling & Event Management – Nominated by Stephanie Belford & Megan Bukaty
Jeff has gone above and beyond to make sure that the students and faculty in the Practical Nursing and Health Occupations Departments have adequate PPE needed for course clinicals. Not only has he helped with locating the correct PPE equipment required for various clinical site locations, but he has also helped guide our departments in the ordering process so that we have enough supplies throughout the semester. He personally follows up to make sure that our orders are accurate and delivered on time. Jeff has even made several personal deliveries off-campus to OHEC so that he could show us some alternative supplies to consider. We appreciate how willing he is to help us stay safe and prepared with in-person learning.

Chris Leeson, Senior Cloud Sys/Application Administrator, Academic Technology Services – Nominated by Anna-Marie Beck
Chris has helped the NDT students gain access to virtual EEG studies. With cold temperatures and school closings (moving to virtual), students were not going to get the hands-on experience as planned for the day. With Chris’s help, they have access to virtual EEG studies and will not miss time or experience as they prepare for their clinical rotation.

Alia Leugoud, Learning Specialist, Academic Achievement Center – Nominated by Valerie Mann
Alia is new to our team and is a willing and helpful member of our group. We are grateful for the way she is willing to pitch in wherever is needed. She also helps keeps students safe in the center by helping kindly enforce our policies. We are so glad to have her!

Ella Lychnikova, Learning Specialist, Achievement Center – Nominated by Valerie Mann
Ella is a wonderful member of our team! She is a steadfast influence on students and learned new software with a real dedication to helping a student with disabilities find success. We appreciate her and her positive and willing efforts to help all those she works with!

Gregory Russell, Chief of Police, Police Department
Angel Wilson, Police Officer, Police Department
Chad Loughman, Interim Deputy Chief of Police
Brett Edwards, Supervisor, Maintenance Department
Gary Cook, Director Housekeeping Services /Haz Mat Control, Housekeeping Services
Tom Hall, AVP Campus Services/Facility Planning, Campus Services
Whitney Williamson, Museum Registrar, Nerman Museum
Andrew Schell, Art Exhibition Technician, Nerman Museum
Art Miller, Exhibition Preparator, Nerman Museum

– Nominated by Kate Allen

On Monday, February 15 at 11:41 am, there was a pipe break in the Nerman Museum due to the extreme temperature. The Campus Police rushed into action identifying the issue, contacting teammates, and moving items out of harm’s way. This was a very stressful occurrence for all involved, particularly museum staff, who have cared for our collection for many years now. Thanks to the immediate action of the departments listed above, we believe NOT ONE PIECE of art was damaged due to this terrible incident! Only a few vitrines, crates, and boxing materials appear to be impacted. It should be noted many teammates showed up to campus and provided constant monitoring of the space on a day where the campus was closed due to treacherous conditions. This is a testament to the expertise, dedication, and collaborative spirit of these departments. Thank you for the opportunity to shine a light on their Extra Effort to protect the museum and create such a successful outcome.

Moving forward, the virtual Extra Effort Awards will be announced bi-weekly.  The virtual Extra Effort Award nomination form can be found at https://blogs.jccc.edu/staffdev/awards/extra-effort/

Accomplishment:

On Monday night (Feb. 15) around 10 pm a sprinkler pipe above the north bay window froze and burst.  When the fire department arrived, the sprinkler supply to “the gymnasium” was shut off.  With the help of the JCCC police the fire department, we also silenced the alarm.  The firemen said the system appeared to be “reset” afterward, but the police went on fire watch for the GYM.  The firemen said we should also have someone come out and look at “sprinkler head control” and “the fire alarm panel system” for the GYM.

Upon inspection the firemen also said that the water partially stayed up in the ceiling drywall and could fall at any time.  We used the GYM event bleachers, and signage, to block off the area due to safety concerns.

Both my crew and Yonas’ crew came together to pick up the water.  It will be some time after midnight before all the water is cleaned up.

Accomplishment:

Over the past year, the Technical Support Center (TSC) has done an amazing job of transitioning their support services to remote delivery.  In February 2021, we were asked to bring back walk-up support and transitioned part of our team and their technology back to campus to meet this need.  On February 15, the College notified the campus community that it would be closing due to inclement weather. Historically, the call centers have closed when the college closes, but this time was different.  The TSC was asked with less than 2 hours’ notice to maintain our call center support hours without any disruption to services for the remainder of the day and for the planned closure the following day. Needing all of our staff to meet this request, Kim Manifold worked with her team to help them again pack-up their equipment, return home, reset up their equipment and be back on-line to avoid any disruption to our call center support the same day as well as preparation for the day ahead.

This nomination is a shout out to Kim and her team for their quick response to transitioning back to remote support delivery, continued flexibility in delivery of our support services, and their perseverance through challenges like this one and others they have successfully overcome as a team.  I am very proud of their teamwork and the quality of services they provide to our campus community.
