CASAI (Council Addressing Substance Abuse Issues) presents “Finding Hope and Recovery in an Age of Addiction” with guest speaker, Rachel DeKoning. Ms. DeKoning is a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist. She has been in private practice for over a decade and recently co-founded Doors of Hope Counseling in Overland Park, where she is passionate about bringing easily accessible and competent therapy to the community. We hope is that this speaker can bring light and encouragement to a difficult topic we all face.
Rachael was ten years into her career as an addiction counselor and psychotherapist when she realized she had become everything she had tried to avoid since growing up with an alcoholic father. She was an addict and could no longer deny what her personal and professional background revealed to be true. Thus began a journey into better understanding not only the science behind addiction and its treatment, but also the incredible and humbling world of personal recovery. In a world that glorifies alcoholism and largely denies addiction, Rachael shines a light on the most important things to know to be proactive with yourself and loved ones in preventing and managing this cunning baffling and powerful disease.
Tuesday, April 16th from 11am-12pm in Craig Auditorium (GEB 233)
Refreshments will be provided!
