What are CUREs?

Course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) are authentic research projects imbedded into regular lab courses that students take as part of their regular course load. At JCCC students conduct research in lab and present their findings at a poster symposium each semester. CUREs allow students to participate in undergraduate research without requiring additional time or money and they do not involve any sort of selection process, but are available to anyone that takes a particular laboratory course with a CURE project. In these authentic research experiences, students learn to revise experiments and problem solve in the lab. Students collaborate with others and are part of a larger community working on a project. The students work on answering questions that are important to the community and are contributing to the scientific body of knowledge.
