The majority of home-schooled students I’ve had have had exceptionally solid backgrounds in composition – but there has been some notable exceptions. I overheard a student in the hall last fall telling a friend, “I was homeschooled all through high school, so basically all I did was play video games.” The point may be that home schooled students’ experiences are so varied that I haven’t found any conclusions that consistently apply. Then I found a funny Facebook post.
For a team project a couple years ago, a couple of my comp 2 students put together the following focus group of Home Schooled students. http://youtu.be/oNZKTRrKfzg It wasn’t too bad – and offered the students’ perspectives.
I’m collecting further links on Home Schooling here. If anyone has any sites, resources or anecdotes on integrating home schooled students into the college classroom, please share.
