I try to share my andragogy (teaching theory) with students early and often. Today I came across an article in the Onion that made me think, made me smile, and made me wonder if students know it is a parody site. “Gruff, No-nonsense Teacher Only Hard on Students Because He Gets Off on Exploiting Power. ”
Then I read online about a “Teen suspended from high school after her anti-bullying video hurts principal’s feelings” and I wonder if it was really parody or something else. I don’t think teachers or admin are drawn to the job because of sadistic or narcissistic predilections, but I wonder about how institutional forces (from schools AND from students/ parents) contribute to bad behavior.
