YOUR GOALS, OUR PROGRAMS
Health information systems professionals specialize in information technology to support clinical processes and healthcare data management.
In JCCC’s HCIS program, you’ll train in simulated environments developed by Oracle Cerner, the nation’s leader in health information and EHR technology. Oracle Cerner’s products are in use at more than 27,500 facilities around the world.
You will learn to:
- Monitor electronic health record (EHR) functionality and usability
- Create, analyze, and secure health information and health data
- Configure, implement and maintain health information technologies
- Deliver training to adult learners
- Analyze and redesign healthcare workflows
- Use correct medical terminology
- Build your résumé with an internship and/or mentorship that will give you real-world experience
CHOOSE FROM TWO CAREER TRACKS
- Associate of Arts or Associate of Science + Health Information Systems Specialist Certificate
Earn both at the same time by taking the HCIS certificate courses as degree electives — Choose between the AA or AS degree while also earning the Health Information Systems Specialist Certificate. Then transfer to a four-year program at one of JCCC’s transfer partner schools or move directly into the workforce to support the health information systems industry usage of EHRs and other technologies which advance the quality, efficiency and security of patient records for improved care.

Provide user support of health information systems and design and deliver training programs to employees in clinical and public health settings. Develop the knowledge and skills to assist healthcare providers to design workflows and use electronic health records (EHR) to meet government standards of quality reporting and improvement initiatives.

NEXT STEPS TO BACHELOR DEGREE: JCCC TRANSFER AGREEMENT
Effective Fall 2024: Students who transfer to Washburn University, without completing AA, AFA or AS degree will have courses evaluated on a course-by-course basis toward meeting the requirements. Students will receive 27 credits for the courses completed for the JCCC Health Information Systems Specialist Certificate. View the transfer guide to Washburn University.
