Writing Across the Curriculum Presenter

Maggie collaborated with JCCC faculty on the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee on a presentation at Spring 2021 Professional Development Days:

Extraordinary times call for out-of-the-ordinary assignments. In this session, we will explore ways to increase student investment in content without overwhelming faculty members with additional paperload. If you are tired of tests or uneasy with traditional research essays, it might be time to try something different. Join our interdisciplinary panel of faculty will discuss creating assignments that meet different objectives: from low-stakes learning checks, to assessments that move students to the application of knowledge, to projects that encourage students to follow their curiosity.

Master Teacher’s Workshop

Maggie participated in the 2020 Master Teacher’s Workshop. Here she learned about values and teaching methodologies of excellent teachers. She developed new collaborative relationships with fellow JCCC faculty. A theme of the workshop was the importance of establishing meaningful connections.

Nursing Collaboration: Oral Health and the Elderly Client

Maggie collaborated with faculty in the JCCC Nursing Department to develop a two-hour interactive presentation on Oral Health and the Elderly Client for second year nursing students. The students used plaque disclosing solution to identify areas of missed plaque biofilm. They then received small group hands-on instruction in effective toothbrushing techniques from second year dental hygiene students.
