The tallgrass prairie is known to have deep root systems that allow these native plants to survive in challenging conditions, but also have the potential to store large amounts of carbon both in the biomass and in the soil. Our research is looking at the amount of carbon stored in the soil in native restored prairie areas compared to the other lawn areas on our campus.
