Cavs Baseball Back In Action After Solid First Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cavaliers Baseball will play two doubleheaders this week against the Metropolitan Community College Wolves, two at JCCC on Feb. 13 and two at MCCC on Feb 15.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cavs <\/span>started the season off right with a 3-1 record<\/span><\/a> on the road against the Amarillo College Badgers. In game 1, Jeremy Corner, Easton Roe, and Chris Mancinas each hit home runs. Corner hit his second home run of the season in the team\u2019s only losing effort.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of the pitchers in the JCCC season opening series against Amarillo had a good time. Josiah Golden kicked the season off by pitching four innings with five strikeouts, two hits and three runs.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the home opener series against Crowder College last Thursday and Saturday, JCCC split four games, with a win and loss each day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cavs Men\u2019s Basketball has a seriously impressive history<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the men\u2019s Basketball playoffs five weeks away, we need to take a second to look at the outstanding history our basketball program has. Since the program\u2019s start in 1969, JCCC has had 10 NJCAA Tournament appearances. Along with that, they have two National Championship titles.<\/p>\n

Both of these title wins were led by head coach Mike Jeffers, who was head coach for 29 years, leading the Cavs to five tournament appearances. He is the leader for all-time wins in program history, with 499 wins under his belt. He not only inspired a good team but allowed individual players to thrive. Under his coaching, 14 Cavaliers earned a total of 16 NJCAA All-American honors. Due to Mike Jeffers’ record-breaking seasons, he was inducted into the JCCC Basketball Hall of Fame after his retirement in 2020.<\/p>\n

The Royals Are Ready For Another Playoff Run<\/strong><\/p>\n

Need to forget that Super Bowl? The Kansas City Royals, who are heading to training camp with pitchers and catchers reporting on Feb. 11, are coming off one of the best seasons since winning the World Series in 2015. They went 86-76 in the regular season, clinching a postseason birth. They swept the Baltimore Orioles in the Wildcard and had a competitive ALDS series against the New York Yankees that they lost 3-1.<\/p>\n

After a great season, the Kansas City Royals are looking to get to the same spot in the playoffs again and get even further in the playoffs, but they still had some holes in the lineup and in the bullpen.<\/p>\n

So, this off-season, they acquired new players through trades and free agency, such as Jonathan India in a trade from the Cincinnati Reds. They also signed a right-handed pitcher from the Philadelphia Phillies, Carlos Estevez.<\/p>\n

Jonathan India is a second baseman who won Rookie of the Year in 2021. India will be the Royals leadoff hitter this upcoming season. Carlos Estevez throws 98-mph fastball, and has a great slider and a very good changeup to that fastball. He didn\u2019t have his best season this past year for the Phillies, but the Royals hope he can have an impact this upcoming season.<\/p>\n
