Amy Sellers is the head coach of the JCCC women\u2019s dance team, and has been for 15 seasons. In the last three years, her team has won three Grand Championship titles, one for each year. These are just a few of the awards and titles that Sellers and her team have obtained over her long career. What does it take to obtain such recognition, and what does it mean to be a Golden Girl?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a little bit of a guessing game. Dance is subjective, so everybody\u2019s opinion can vary, it\u2019s not point based like other sports,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cThe entertainment aspect is a big portion of it\u2026 you want everybody to love the routine, so that\u2019s what we have to think about with song choice, costuming, and choreography.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In April, JCCC\u2019s Golden Girls will be going to Orlando, Florida for the first time to perform for the growing community college division for Jazz and Hip Hop dancing. But, dance isn\u2019t all about competition. Behind the twists and twirls is a lifestyle of self-improvement, dedication, and communication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDance really helps people become their true selves. It\u2019s a form of expression when you can\u2019t always find the words,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of like an outlet\u2026 a way to show all these different emotions without ever having to speak a word.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like many coaches at JCCC, Sellers\u2019 love for dance helps her impact young athletes who are looking to make a name for themselves and grow as individuals; just one of many things that sets our athletic program apart from the rest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOver the years, all of the dancers that I\u2019ve had come through our program,\u201d Sellers said. \u201cI\u2019ve loved watching them grow\u2026 they get to truly find and express themselves, and they get to do it together.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
