On Thursday nights, JCCC\u2019s lower gym turns into a battlefield\u2013it\u2019s not a battle for scholarships or trophies, but for bragging rights. Although it only happens once a week, there is no shortage of heavy competition. JCCC intramural basketball has its own unique kind of chemistry, one that not even organized sports can replicate. How do intramural sports work, and how do teams come together?<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, we just met on the spot. We just got put into a team, and after a couple games, we just kind of meshed together,\u201d says Michael Prewitt, Liberal Arts major at JCCC.<\/p>\n

The idea of intramural sports is to have a place where those looking for some friendly competition can come together and have a good time, de-stress and meet new people. Nothing washes away stress like the swish of a 3-pointer, especially for busy students. Although intramural sports are generally centered around fun, students still like to be competitive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are having fun, but obviously we\u2019re here to win. At the end of the day, it\u2019s still competition,\u201d says Prewitt.<\/p>\n

Intramural basketball is played as street-style basketball\u20133v3, 11 points to win, make-it-take-it, and best of three. Organized chaos, if you will. Games are fast paced, making it a great way to get your cardio in and break a good sweat.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody\u2019s getting the ball, everybody\u2019s touching the rock,\u201d says Jason Mashuri, also a Liberal Arts major at JCCC.<\/p>\n
