Lucky for you, JCCC partnered with RideKC, and anyone can ride for free on the KC Metro area bus route.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to JCCC\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jccc.edu\/about\/sustainability\/transportation.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">transportation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> page, these free rides are a \u201cpart of our campus initiatives to support sustainability and remove barriers to education.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ridekc.org\/routes\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> KC Metro area bus route<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has more stops than just to and from campus, and student IDs are strongly encouraged when using the buses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some of the places you can go for free are:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Downtown Kansas City<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Country Club Plaza<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">KU-Edwards<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oak Park Mall<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rosana Square<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And more<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">JCCC student Clair Kohlhase uses the bus to help them out multiple times a week because they can&#8217;t drive and doesn&#8217;t feel comfortable learning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to Kohlhase, their ride is about 30-45 minutes and is pretty easy to access.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[It\u2019s] only about a 15-minute walk from my house,\u201d Kohlhase said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kohlhase finds the buses to be pretty reliable and they typically don&#8217;t have any issues with the schedule.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey\u2019re always there every day and vaguely around the same time, but they&#8217;re not always on time,\u201d Kohlhase said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The ride is always pleasant and safe, according to Kohlhase, and they recommend using public transportation when offered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s an actual good use of our tax dollars, which I can&#8217;t say about a lot of things in this country,\u201d Kohlhase said. \u201cIt\u2019s accessible, goes [to] lots of places, safe, and reliable.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RideKC offers some tips, tricks and bus etiquette for newbie riders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First, make sure that you are prepared. Check the schedule and make sure you know where you&#8217;re going before your ride.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPlan ahead by referring to online schedules, using the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/transitpartners\/answer\/1111471\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online trip planner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or by calling (816) 221-0660 before you head out,\u201d RideKC said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Look for the right signs and routes upon arrival. Be sure to get to your stop in a timely manner. RideKC suggests arriving at least five minutes early and having your student ID ready.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLook for signs at the bus stop, shelter, park and ride lot or transit center showing the route name and number,\u201d RideKC said. \u201cCatch the right route by looking for the name and number [on] the overhead sign.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Finally, make sure that you are being cautious and safe on all buses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWait for the bus to come to a complete stop before boarding and exiting,\u201d RideKC said. \u201cMove safely about the bus using safety rails and watch for anything that may cause you to slip.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you are in need of transportation or simply don&#8217;t want to get gas in the morning, RideKC may be an option for you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine you&#8217;re all out of gas and you really don&#8217;t want to go to the gas station before class in the morning.
