{"id":2834,"date":"2025-12-12T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T16:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.jccc.edu\/messenger\/?p=2834"},"modified":"2025-12-12T02:44:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T08:44:47","slug":"your-guide-for-holiday-break-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.jccc.edu\/messenger\/2025\/12\/12\/your-guide-for-holiday-break-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Guide For Holiday Break Fun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>(Photo by: Bryan Dickerson, https:\/\/pxhere.com\/en\/photo\/1669554, CC0 Public Domain)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>With the holidays coming soon and a long break on the horizon for many students, days that used to be filled with school can now be filled with holiday activities.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things you can do this break to fill your time:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crown Center\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crown Center offers many holiday activities to fill your time during break, including \u201cice-skating beneath the towering Mayor\u2019s Christmas Tree to visiting Santa at Destination North Pole,\u201d according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/crowncenterchristmas.com\/\">website<\/a>. You can also join them to experience those classic Hallmark movie feels at the Hallmark Christmas Experience at no charge. You can also buy the Mayor\u2019s Christmas ornament of the year, which are priced at $19.95 and can be found on the second level of the Crown Center Customer Service\u2019s Crown Center Shops. The funds from the ornaments will go to the Mayor\u2019s Christmas Tree fund. Hours can be found on their website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Luminary Walk\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Luminary Walk, located at the Overland Park Arboretum &amp; Botanical Gardens, is going on its 26th year. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/artsandrec-op.org\/arboretum\/luminary-walk\/\">The Arts &amp; Recreation Foundation of Overland Park<\/a>, you can \u201cwander through garden paths aglow with sparkling lights, enjoy live music, luminary candles in the woods, gnome and fairy villages, and capture a photo with Santa.\u201d This event is held on the weekends, and there are two weekends left: Dec. 12-13 and 19-20. General admission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.showclix.com\/tickets\/luminary2025?_gl=1*45jfl5*_gcl_au*MTYzMzQ0MzYyNi4xNzY0ODk3OTYw*_ga*MTQ0MTIyMjkyNC4xNzY0ODk3OTYw*_ga_DE94D96J3Q*czE3NjQ4OTc5NjAkbzEkZzAkdDE3NjQ4OTc5NjAkajYwJGwwJGgw#\/\">tickets<\/a> are $17, and children under five get in for free. There are other events as well, including an adults-only candlelight stroll (18+) on Dec. 11-18 and Electric Glow on Dec. 10, 17, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29 and 30.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ice Skating<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are many locations in the Kansas City area to go ice skating, including Crown Center and The Ice at Park Place.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crowncenter.com\/iceterrace\">Crown Center Ice Terrace<\/a>: According to their website, this is their 53rd season of outdoor skating fun. For adults and children over the age of 4, admission is $10 with an additional $6 skate rental. According to their website, \u201cthe Ice is surrounded by seasonal festivities, amazing restaurants, and local, specialty shopping.\u201d Tickets are $12 for adults and children over four, with a skate rental of $4. For ages 4 and up, tickets with the skate rental included are $18. According to their <a href=\"https:\/\/tickets.unionstation.org\/events\/a83fec27-1937-f190-cf36-16f50a815b41?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23180738336&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADiqudRvlAcLqj4QopjPripuUS7x0&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAosrJBhD0ARIsAHebCNrOhkFvvlRbGiDHbJtoWaluXv_aQEajSXPm48N_2-zzGSj6DxNjxj8aApFTEALw_wcB\">website<\/a>, the \u201cHoliday Reflections Walk-Thru Village is an immersive, magical Holiday experience \u2013 voted Kansas City\u2019s \u201cBest Christmas Attraction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the activities that are included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit Santa daily through Dec. 24.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the new animated singing snowman and sing some carols.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the Vintage Shasta Trailer Scene.<\/li>\n<li>See the NEW Holiday Gingerbread village that has life-sized candy canes, gingerbread characters and more.<\/li>\n<li>Ride down the New Holiday Tree Slide (for children only).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pricing varies depending on the day you visit. Tickets can be purchased on their website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magic Tree\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Magic Tree is a free tree that is covered in all sorts of Christmas lights. \u201cCapture memories with the stunning lights, and immerse yourself in the holiday spirit. The Magic Tree is more than just a beautiful display \u2014 it\u2019s a symbol of joy, hope, and community,\u201d says their <a href=\"https:\/\/paragonstar.com\/pages\/the-magic-tree\">website<\/a>. The tree has been a family tradition for more than a decade, bringing communities together to celebrate the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deanna Rose Children&#8217;s Farmstead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deanna Rose offers a holiday light show that goes along with your favorite holiday songs. The show\u2019s admission is free and is shown at the main entrance of the farmstead. \u201cBring some cocoa, cookies and blankets as you view the lights and hear the music from the warmth of your car in the Farmstead\u2019s parking lot,\u201d Overland Park posted on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opkansas.org\/events\/holiday-lights-on-farmstead-lane\/\">website<\/a>. The show will run until Dec. 31 and can be seen from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksongov.org\/Events-directory\/37th-Annual-Christmas-In-The-Park\"><strong>Christmas in the Park<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last but certainly not least, Christmas in the Park is a drive-through light show, with more than half a million lights and 200 animated displays that were all designed by their team. This show is at Longview Lake, and admission is free. That being said, you can choose to donate at the end of the show. It\u2019s open every night until Dec. 31. To avoid long lines, they recommend coming during the week, earlier rather than later.
