The event runs from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will include a mini fashion show, shopping and clothing repair.

Brian Salsgiver is the person who runs these pop-up events. His love for thrifting began when he and his father started thrifting together. Salsgiver is the one who first connected with the Student Activities Department to get this event going.

“He works with these local vendors, and they have shows all across the area,” Cassie Jordan, the manager of Student Activities and Leadership Development, said. “We thought it would be such a fun highlight to get fashion merchandising on… So they’re going to do a mini fashion show [by] pulling some pieces from the sale. They’re doing some social media coverage too.”

The Fashion Merchandising and Design Department will be hosting two fashion shows, one at 12 p.m. and the other at 2 p.m. Fashion students will be visiting different vendors during the event to style their models for the show.

“I have a group of students that will be styling mannequins or forms to also show off those spring trends that we’re seeing for inspiration for the shoppers,” Whitney Thacker, the department’s visual merchandising manager, said.

Lastly, the Center for Sustainability is organizing a free clothing repair service. Students will be able to bring in a maximum of two damaged clothing items for repair between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sewists will be able to patch holes, attach buttons, fix busted seams and replace zippers, but the student must supply the zipper. The clothing items must be clean, and sewists have the right to refuse items.

“I think college is one of those times where you’re really finding your identity, you’re finding your own style, you’re just kind of discovering yourself, and I think this will be a fun outlet to allow students to do that in a really unique way,” Jordan said. “It’ll be great vibes, great finds, and just good community.”

Retro Revival is open to anyone who wants to attend, and all vendors will be accepting card payments, so visitors won’t have to worry about bringing cash if they don’t want to. All students will receive a free reusable shopping bag.

On Wednesday, March 4, JCCC will be hosting over 10 vendors in the MTC building for “Retro Revival.” The event is a group effort between its three organizers: the Student Activities Department, the Center for Sustainability and the Fashion Merchandising and Design Department.
