Mystery is upon us. If you’ve ever wanted to be an actor or transform into a fictional character, test your acting skills, put the clues together and attempt to solve a murder at a town party right here at JCCC.

The Honors Student Association (HSA) is hosting a murder mystery to bring students together for an evening of fun, intrigue and networking. The event will feature a themed murder mystery, dinner and dessert. The event will give everyone attending an opportunity to socialize and build connections with other attendees.

This year’s theme is called “Homicide at Harrison House,” and it will be on April 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Regnier Center, room RC 101.

HSA President Maryam Khalid said the organization wanted to create something that was both fun and an opportunity for everyone to socialize.

“I think people are often under the assumption that HSA is just for honor students focusing on academia,” Khalid said. “We’re really trying to bring out that social aspect, and murder mysteries are kind of a different way for people to look at honors and see that.”

The HSA wanted to host the murder mystery not just for students in the Honors Program, but also to introduce more students to the organization.

“This is an opportunity for people to interact with other students, such as the honor students, and learn more about the program,” Khalid said.

One of the best parts of the evening, according to Charlie Bethany, HSA Vice President, is that you get to transform into something you are not used to being.

“So you get to kind of play as this whole other person and be whoever you want to be for the night, and then make friends that you can take back into the world of being the person that you are every other day of the year,” Bethany said.

During the event, the organizers will assign participants to characters who will work through the story together, ask other participants questions, gather clues and form theories about who committed the murder.

At the end of the night, there will be prizes, according to Khalid.

“We’ll have prizes for the best detective, the best actor, and the best dressed. We highly encourage people to dress in character and really get into it.”

The HSA is a platform for honor students to connect with peers.

“It is more of the social aspect of the Honors Program,” Khalid said. “Anyone who is in the Honors Program is automatically an HSA member, and this just allows for different events such as the murder mystery, which has been really popular over the past few years.”

Tickets to the murder mystery are $20 for single admission and $30 for two. The cost of a ticket covers admission to play the murder mystery game, dinner and dessert. The HSA will sell tickets until the event starts.

Murder is afoot. Mystery is upon us.
