Staff Development Grant (Master Agreement Funds)

All members of the bargaining unit are eligible for Staff Development grants for tuition, materials and/or certification testing for approved professional development courses and/or programs to remain certified, licensed or current in their teaching field. Members may obtain grants for two courses per year to a maximum of $1,000 each year.

This is for non-credit funding only; it cannot be used for classes towards advanced degrees.

To apply, send your request with detailed information on the course (usually a print copy of the class or program) to Karen Martley, VP, Continuing Education & Organizational Development. If approved, Staff Development handles the registration; reimbursements are not given for classes already taken. The money cannot be used for travel; it is limited to registration, materials and testing only.

One Time Continuing Education Opportunity

Sessions may be taken for either personal or professional development through the JCCC Continuing Education Department or through an off-campus organization event held in the metropolitan Kansas City area. It is available to all JCCC employees once per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

To apply, fill out the One Time Continuing Education Form and submit to Staff and Organizational Development, GEB 275, Box 43.  Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis; budget for this activity is limited and will be expended as a total amount for the year…

Obligations:

  • Registration will be submitted by the Staff Development office; no reimbursements will be made
  • Applicant is responsible for any amount exceeding  the allocation of this award

Sabbatical Leaves

A sabbatical leave may be granted for any activity which, in the judgment of the Board of Trustees, will contribute to personal and professional growth. Sabbatical leaves are available to all full-time faculty and salaried staff after six years of full-time employment.

  • Applications are due in October; check application for exact date
  • Sabbatical Committee interviews and recommendations take place in November
  • Board of Trustee Action in December

Approval:  Two separate committees, one for  Faculty and one for AMS, conduct the sabbatical process.  Committees forward recommendations to the president, who forwards the decision to the Board for final approval.

Obligations:   A written report is due three months after returning from the sabbatical.

Funding Source:  The Vice President of Academic Affairs/CAO


Staff and Organizational Development Support

Provides financial support for departmental professional development. Approval must be secured through the annual budget process prior to the budget year that funding will be required.

Special Grant

Available as alternate source of funds for professional and personal development of all JCCC employees (limit one per fiscal year) in areas of:

  • College-wide or discipline research and development projects
  • Conference attendance  (available only for adjunct faculty and part-time staff with no travel budget)
  • Conference presentation (amount depends on type of presentation–see below)
  • Specialized training

Deadline:

  • To be guaranteed consideration, the application with all requirements must be submitted prior to the registration deadline or commencement of the activity.
  • The Special Grant Committee will vote on the applications one week following the application deadline.    *March meeting will be two weeks following the application deadline.

Approval:

The committee reserves the right to interview applicants if deemed necessary

Any questions about the Special Grant process and application should be directed to confer with a member of the Special Grants committee as they prepare their application

  • Grants will be awarded on activity merit and availability of funds
  • Reimbursement will not exceed the total amount approved

Obligations:

  • Applicants must have an Individual Development Plan (IDP), or Portfolio that is less than 3 years
  • Completed Travel Authorization form with appropriate signature(s) must be submitted with application if travel is required as component of activity
  • Special Grant request must relate to goals as indicated on the IDP/Portfolio
  • International travel requirements:
    • All applications involving international travel must be submitted to the International Office for consideration first
    • Documentation of funds approved by the International Committee must be attached to the special grant application
    • The maximum amount of funding available for international travel is $2,000.00 from all JCCC sources once every two years
    • All international requests must be signed by the President of the college
  • Completed Special Grant Report summarizing the results of the activity must be submitted to Staff Development.
  • Completed Out of District Travel Reimbursement must be submitted to Staff Development for reimbursement to be paid
