Nathan Reid
This presentation is about the roles and techniques of jazz double bass players and how they changed over time. You will be able to learn about these bass players and their contributions but most of all you will learn about a complex and diverse genre of music. My hope is that by watching my presentation you will be inspired to go out and listen to the great jazz musicians of the 20th century.

Now I have to listen to Chambers and Mingus all day. Thank you for the overview and a glimpse into that brain of yours.
How strange that a string instrument player was expected to play tuba! I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. Well done.
Thank you for this great presentation, Nathan! Not being a musician, my question is likely very naive, but I wonder whether the evolution of the double base parallels the evolution of jazz more generally. What would that kind of analysis tell us about the instrument’s centrality to the genre? Well done!
