Let’s Talk Tech

Rob Songer

This presentation was originally envisioned. for the purpose of introducing new teachers to the basics of life as a person in the Low Vision Community, defining the difference between the Blind and a person with Low Vision, and finally an overview of the technology available for adaptations for the visually impaired. It also gives hints for normal visioned people on ways to reduce eye fatigue and limit Digital Eye Strain.

  1. Hi Rob,

I really enjoyed your presentation. You did a great job at explaining life in the Low Vision Community, and I feel you did so in a way that was extremely informative, exciting, and personable. I started having issues with my vision in Kindergarten and had to do various eye exercises, especially with a Brock String. I have to make frequent visits to the eye doctor as my vision is always changing. More recently, I’ve developed issues with night blindness and no longer drive in the dark unless absolutely necessary. I will definitely look into the devices and resources you’ve recommended. Your presentation is extremely important, and I feel should be more of a norm, for our society to fully understand the Low Vision and Blind Community. Dave Steele’s poems were a great addition and helped illustrate many challenges faced in day-to-day life, in addition to your own personal experiences.

    1. Thank you so much… If there is anything I can do please advise and make contact with me. I am in a internship with the college on ways to adapt college life for not the visually impaired but also for the student body. I would always be open to help with any ways to make it easier for you or even just talk about experences in ways to adapt and deal with issues that come up.

    2. Thank you so much. If there is anything I can do or you wish to speak to me about this topic, please do not hesitate on reaching out to me. This field is a field of trail and error to find answers to the issues. Everyone is different. One might have an answer for them but it can help others with different issues. I was tying to just give ideas on ways to answer each person’s visual issues that I have found.

Thank you for your kind words.
