This research project presents an overview and comparative analysis of different modalities of dialysis, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).This presentation reviews the indications, advantages, and limitations of each modality and highlights the nursing/treatment process included in each modality. Hemodialysis is the most commonly used modality, which involves the filtration of patient’s blood through a dialysis machine, whereas peritoneal dialysis is a home-based treatment that uses the patient’s peritoneal membrane as a filter. CRRT is a relatively newer modality that offers continuous ultrafiltration and can be used in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. Moreover, this presentation explores the nursing responsibilities and interventions required to ensure that dialysis patients receive optimal care and outcomes. This research project discusses the technical aspects, complications, and outcomes of each modality and summarizes the current evidence on their efficacy in terms of patient survival and quality of life. In conclusion, the choice of dialysis modality depends on various factors, such as the patient’s clinical condition, comorbidities, lifestyle, and preferences, and this presentation serves as a comprehensive guide for nurses who provide care to dialysis patients.
Interesting and thorough overview, Megan!
Wonderful graphics!
