Developing a Student User Guide for a New Instrument at JCCC

David Schnoor

The goal of this project was to create an original document for the operation of a new Atomic Absorption Spectrometer recently acquired by JCCC, the Shimadzu AA-7800. It will functionally serve as an operation manual to be used by students on campus. Contents will include protocols detailing the safe and proper operation of both components of the instrument: the standard Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (FAAS) and the Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (GFAAS). Additionally, it will provide information on its specifications and some background on AAS methodology. The manual will be utilized by future students of JCCC and potentially those using the same equipment at other institutions as well. Using this manual will allow students to take full advantage of this equipment made available to them, while improving their understanding of  the analyses they perform with it.

  1. This is exceptional, David.

The overview of the history and the graphics are particularly strong, but I also like how you explain the need for the manual and the uses of the tool in clear, accessible language.

    Thanks,

    Danny
