Hello world!

For Prospective Participants:

It is easy to forget the profundity of what the quotation points out.  Committee work, assessment, and bureaucratic red tape can overshadow our sense of vocation and its importance for students.  Towards that end, please consider joining fellow faculty as we come together for a invigorating workshop focusing on our cherished vocation:  teaching.

This all-expenses-paid retreat will take place at the Marillack Center in Leavenworth which offers state-of-the-art facilities as well as beautiful grounds for recreation. Participants have will have transportation to and from JCCC, single accommodations, Wi-Fi access, as well as meals provided.

The Workshop, Brief Overview:

Started in 1993 and now being revived in 2018, MTW will bring together twenty-four participants to engage in small- and large-group activities that focus on teaching and learning.  Highlights include an afternoon session hearing from JCCC’s own senior professors, break-out sessions where participants share their best teaching strategies, a cocktail party, awards ceremony, and a final morning wrap-up session where we create a spider web, the long-standing symbol of the MTW and how it helps us weave connections that last long after the workshop ends. Participants return in time to be welcomed back by fellow faculty at the All-Faculty Meeting on January 11.

The Goals:

MTW celebrates good teaching and builds a supportive learning community.  To accomplish this, we will:

  • Share teaching and learning tips
  • Reflect on professional attitude, knowledge and behaviors.
  • Promote collegiality.
  • Open ourselves to new ideas.
  • Have fun with colleagues.
