Full/Part Time: Full Time

Primary Duties:
The City of Hays is looking for the next energetic full-time Firefighter. If you are looking for a rewarding hands-on career, this is the job for you! This position responds to emergency situations including fires, persons trapped, hazardous conditions, & medical emergencies. This position also inspects equipment daily, conducts safety training for the public, inspects fire hydrants, & completes all necessary training. After completion of the training period, this position works 24-hour shifts every third day. Weekend & holiday work is required. Firefighters are expected to respond to major emergency calls when off-duty.

Aptitude & physical tests & background investigations will be conducted. Next available aptitude & physical test is scheduled for Saturday, December 9th. Applicants will receive more information about the testing process when application is received. Job offers contingent on pre-employment physical exam & drug screening.

Skills:
Valid Kansas driver’s license & High School Degree or GED required with a technical degree or some college credit preferred. The ideal candidate would have the ability to read & interpret written instructions, have strong communication & mechanical skills. This position requires Firefighter I & EMT certifications within 12 months of employment & Driver Operator & Firefighter II within 24 months. Firefighters must establish their primary residence within the approved district within six-months of appointment.

Compensation: $37,238
Benefits:
Full Pay Range: $37,238 – $55,828 with additional overtime & promotion opportunities available. Placement within the pay range based on experience. The City of Hays offers great benefits including family health insurance, paid time off, KP&F retirement & holidays.
