JCCC Women’s Soccer

The JCCC women’s soccer team dominated their game against Allen County Community College scoring  seven goals on home turf Sept. 12. Sophomore midfielder Flo Rigby scored three goals and one assist. NJCAA D-II Women’s Soccer named Rigby offensive player of the week after scoring five goals and one assist for 11 points in total. Three days later, they beat conference rivals Kansas City Kansas Community College 6-3 at home. 

On Sept. 19, they continued their winning ways with a 4-1 win at Pratt Community College. . 

The JCCC women’s team are getting ready to face Iowa Western Community College on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m., and Southeast Community College on Sept. 23, at 1pm.

On Sept. 16, JCCC men’s soccer tied their conference rivals Kansas City Community College1-1 followed by another tie with Pratt Community College, 2-2.. Their record now stands at 4-3-3.

Freshman midfielder Cristiano Palacios Guerrero (No. 12) has contributed seven goals this season along with one assist. Next week the men’s soccer team will be facing Southeast Community College at 3:30 p.m.

JCCC Women’s Volleyball

NJCAA DII women’s volleyball got one of its best matches of the season last Wednesday between the No. 2-ranked Cowley County Community College and No. 3-ranked Johnson County Community College. It was a tough loss for the Cavaliers, who took the first set in the match, before losing 3-1 on the road. The team still showed out with last year’s All-American Ava Esser recording 12 kills. Sydney Rogokos also helped the team put up a fight with an impressive nine kills. In the end, the Tigers gave Johnson County their second loss of the season, bringing them to 13-2 on the year.

Cowley County’s attack was led by Lana Gomilanovic and Teo Cekan, who combined for 33 kills across 4 sets. This duo leads the team in total points and is a large part of their success this season. Despite the loss, Johnson County is still in good standing at 17-2 after winning four matches over two days last weekend during the JCCC Challenge matches.. According to the JCCC volleyball schedule, the team has a home game against Allen County Community College this Wednesday.

This won’t be an easy win for either team. Allen County Community College is led by Taylor Damme, a breakout star averaging 4.3 kills per set, according to ACCC volleyball stats.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to a strong start to the 2026 NFL season. The Chiefs started week one of their schedule with a dominant victory hosting the Denver Broncos 31-10 on Monday Night Football. In week two, they beat the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football 33-30 in an overtime thriller. 

This upcoming weekend the Chiefs travel south to Miami to take on the struggling Dolphins in the Chiefs first 12 p.m. (CT) kickoff of the season. The Miami Dolphins have had a lot of turnover this offseason with the addition of new head coach Jeff Hafley from the Green Bay Packers. Hafley served as the defensive coordinator for the Packers for two seasons before getting the head coaching job in Miami this off season.

Alongside with Jeff Hafley, the Dolphins brought in Malik Willis as their starting quarterback from the Packers. Willis has thrown for 220 yards, rushed for 39 yards, with an interception and a rushing touchdown this season(subject to change). Rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas,  out of Texas Tech, has caught the attention of Dolphins fans with seven catches for 113 yards in his first two games).
