Spring enrollment 

The Spring 2027 schedule of classes is now available, allowing new and returning students to view course offerings ahead of enrollment. Students can search course descriptions and numbers on the JCCC catalog site, then enter those numbers into the Enroll/Drop card on MyJCCC. 

In the Enroll/Drop card, students click Browse Classes and select Spring 2027 from the drop-down menu. Searches can be filtered by keyword, subject, course number, instructor, delivery method (i.e. in-person, online, hybrid, etc) or course attribute. 

 Enrollment opens at 9 p.m. on Oct. 21 giving students roughly three months before the semester’s tuition payment deadline. Because the server can slow under heavy traffic when the window opens, students are advised to have their course numbers ready in advance. The Plan My Classes card on MyJCCC lets students build a full schedule by term before enrollment night, which can reduce last-minute searching.  

 Tuition for the spring semester is due by 6 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2027. Students who miss the deadline will be dropped for nonpayment, and reinstatement is not guaranteed. The open seat will most likely go to a student on the waiting list. Students who cannot pay the full balance by the deadline can enroll in a JCCC Payment Plan to avoid being dropped.

JCCC Monarch tagging event welcomes all to participate as butterflies migrate south 

Open to the entire JCCC community, the Environmental Science Department and Student Environmental Alliance club are hosting a Monarch butterfly tagging event on Sept. 28.  

The event is expected to run from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. Those attending will first gather in classroom SCI 117 to learn about Monarchs and receive training on the “how-tos” of tagging them.  

Depending on weather conditions, and whether plants are still nectar-producing, teams will embark with butterfly nets in hand to designated areas of campus and/or Stoll Park at 3:15 p.m., where butterflies are expected to be active, before returning to the classroom at 4 p.m.  

Mid-to-late September marks the peak migration period for Monarch butterflies as they pass through Kansas to land in Mexico. To track movement data, groups will use a tagging mobile app developed by “Monarch Watch,” a nonprofit conservation organization based in Lawrence, dedicated to protecting the butterflies as they migrate south.

“Dolly Day”

JCCC is making Sept. 25 a day to remember the queen of country music by presenting Dolly Day: A celebration of the life of Dolly Parton in the CoLab (OCB 100) from 11 a.m.-2:45 p.m. 

Professor Danny Alexander will talk about the life and music of Dolly, followed at noon with the movie 9 to 5 starring Lily Tomlin,  Jane Fonda, and Dolly, who wrote and sang its title song. The event concludes with Dolly decorations, quotes, and giveaways, provided by the Billington Library and the CoLab from 2:00-2:30 p.m.  

The event is free and open to anyone.  JCCC Dining and Catering will provide students with refreshments and snacks. Students can RSVP for any event by going to the JCCC Event page, clicking on the event of the students choosing, and using their myJCCC log in then selecting “I will be attending”.
