JCCC Womens Volleyball

Johnson County Community College’s Women’s Volleyball team continued their terrific season with another 3-0 victory last Wednesday against Allen County Community College. According to the JCCC volleyball stats page, this was their fifth consecutive 3-0 sweep. 

In facing their Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference rival, the Cavaliers’ impressive defensive performance clinched the win, holding the Red Devils to only 46 total points. They contained ACCC’s leading scorer Taylor Damme, only allowing seven total kills from her. Damme averages 13 per game across an 18-game stretch according to the ACCC volleyball stats page.  

The Cavaliers’ victory was a team effort, with five different players contributing seven or more kills. The attack was led by Sydney Rogokos who recorded twelve total kills. Campbell Chabot helped the team with five serving aces, more than double that of the entire Allen County team. 

Johnson County heads to Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday. The Ravens are hunting for their first conference win behind Genesis Walker. Walker leads the team in total kills with an impressive total of 188.

JCCC Soccer

 JCCC Women’s Soccer gained a scoreless draw again Iowa Western Community College in a defensive battle last Tuesday.  

The next day was a completely different story. The Cavs scored a record 22 goals against Southeast Community College. They ended their historic week with another shutout, this time 6-0, against St. Louis Community College. 

This week, the women face conference rival Highland Community College at 4 p.m. on their home pitch. 

JCCC Men’s Soccer dropped their match against Southeast Community College in a tight 1-0 battle but followed it up Sunday with their first win in two weeks, 2-1, over St. Louis Community College.  

This week, the JCCC men’s soccer team heads to Neosho County Community College at 4:30 p.m.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs headed out of week three with a perfect record after a 24-10 win against the Miami Dolphins. This week the stakes get higher with the Chiefs taking on the Las Vegas Raiders. Both teams head into the game with a win over an AFC west opponent with the Chiefs beating the Broncos in week one and the Raiders (3-0) defeating the Chargers in week two.  

 For the Chiefs, the addition of running back Kenneth Walker III can’t go understated. Last season’s Super Bowl MVP hit the ground with 360 rushing yards, 82 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns.  

Bringing back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has also helped the team’s offense go back to their efficient ways. After Leaving the Chiefs for the offensive coordinator role in Washington, Bieniemy didn’t have as much success as he would have hoped for. In his second stint, he has brought back the accountability and the tough love that this Chiefs offense has missed.  

The Raiders have shocked NFL fans around the country with their 3-0 start. The Raiders were picked to finish last in the AFC West by most analysts, but so far sit at the top tied with the Chiefs. The resurgence is due first year head coach Klint Kubiak, who was the offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks last season.
