DEI Committee work in 2021

The DEI Committee was established in the spring of 2021. Beginning late-spring and throughout the summer, the DEI Committee met to review the MGT report, examine recommendations and best practices for bolstering diversity, equity, and inclusion at JCCC, and compiled a list of committee recommendations to present to college leadership.

Initial meetings involved in-depth review and discussions in small groups, with specific brainstorming sessions to examine student supports and success, employee engagement, community engagement, and the need for a DEI function at the College.

Following those robust discussions, in the early-fall of 2021, the Committee created small groups of committee volunteers to review the work of the brainstorming sessions and synthesize the ideas and recommendations that emerged.

Throughout the fall of 2021, committee and small group leaders wrote a DEI report to present to the cabinet. One of the main recommendations to emerge from the report of recommendations was the need for an expert in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at JCCC.

The DEI Committee was asked to merge its work into the strategic planning process, and committee members joined the DEI goal/strategy teams in December of 2021.
