Cabinets

Cabinets are made to standardized sizes. (Wall cabinets are 12″ to 18″ deep and 12″ to 36″ high. Base cabinets are 24″ deep and 34″ high; when the countertop is added, the base cabinet is 36″ high.  Widths are multiples of 3″ and range from 9″ to 48″.

Cabinets may be framed or frameless Framed cabinets have rails (horizontal framing pieces) and stiles (vertical framing pieces) on the inside of their doors; unframed ones don’t. They may be full or standard overlay, which describes the amount of front frame covered by the door and drawer. A full overlay has a maximum 1/8″ reveal (exposed portion) around each door and drawer and between the doors. A standard overlay cabinet has a minimum of 1” reveal around the door and drawer perimeters.
