STEMtech Presenters

Several JCCC math faculty made presentations at the third annual STEMtech conference, held in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 28-31, 2012.

  • Mary Deas, professor of mathematics, Craig Jaggard, adjunct assistant professor of mathematics, and Steven Wilson, professor of mathematics, presented the session “Quality Dual Credit: What Choices Do You Have?”
  • Brenda Edmonds, associate professor of mathematics, co-presented (along with Lori Slavin, from JCCC chemistry) the session “Teaching and Assessing Mathematical and Scientific Communication”
  • Caroline Goodman and Kathleen Lefert, both assistant professors of mathematics, presented the session “Integrating Sustainability into Math Classes: What We Learned”
  • Rob Grondahl, associate professor of mathematics, presented the session “Math and Physics in Video Game Development”
  • Scott Keltner, adjunct associate professor of mathematics, presented two sessions, “Inspiration to Implementation: The TI-Nspire CS in Math and Science” and “How We Acquired a Wind Turbine at Eudora High School”

The STEMtech conferences are organized by the League for Innovation in the Community College.  The conference is “designed to help increase student success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; better align educational systems with each other and local workforce needs; and explore technology’s role in the teaching and learning processes.” This year’s conference was jointly hosted by Johnson County Community College and Metropolitan Community College.  Many faculty also served as volunteers at the registration booths.
