Jews, Muslims and Christians contributed to the scientific, artistic and cultural accomplishments of this “Golden Age.” Special interactive sessions with both Jewish and Muslim experts will help participants understand the legacy of Jews and Muslims before, during and after the expulsion of Jews in 1492. Visits with the Jewish and Muslim communities living in Spain today will provide opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue.
Cities include: Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Málaga
Trip Dates: March 12 –22, 2020
NOTE: Students will be required to enroll in GIST 101 (1-credit). Participants must also be physically fit to walk distances over uneven terrain.

Day 1: Departure, KCI-Seville
– Walking tour of Jewish quarter, Shabbat dinner with members of the local Jewish community
Day 2: Seville
– Visit Real Alcázar in the morning and Giralda tower
– Free time and visit Plaza España, Santa Cruz quarters
Day 3: Seville – Córdoba
– Transfer to Córdoba
– Jewish Quarters, Casa de Sefarad, La Mezquita Catedral de Córdoba, Roman Bridge, La Casa Andalusí
Day 4: Córdoba & Medina Azahara
Day 5: Córdoba- Granada
-Transfer to Granada
– Traditional quarters of Albayzin in the evening, panoramic views to Alhambra, mosque of Granada visit
Day 6: Granada & Alhambra
– Morning visit to Alhambra
– Evening visit to the Casa Sefardí & free time in Granada
Day 7: Alpujarra Mountains
– In the morning visit the Alpujarra mountains, including a thousand year old Muslim bridge, a traditional village, and a countryside mosque with a Sufi community
Day 8: Granada – Málaga
-Transfer to Málaga by the coast road
-Free day in the coastal city of Málaga
-Optional destinations include: the Picasso House, the Museo Picasso, the Alcazaba, Málaga Cathedral, or relax on the beach
