Week 6 Activities

New to the challenge? Make sure to check out the “How it Works” tab to get started.

So you’ve registered to vote and now you want to do more. Maybe you want to help others get registered. Or maybe you want to help with the voting process. Maybe you’ve done your candidate research and you found one that you really believe in. Have you thought about volunteering? Here are three ideas to get more involved:

1.   Become an Election Worker

While this year more Kansans and Missourians than ever will probably vote by mail, at this point, polls will still be open. Local election offices need help from younger adults more than ever! This is a very important role in helping people vote smoothly and swiftly. If you’re interested in giving back, check out these links to learn how to volunteer at your local election office (some workers even get paid):

Johnson County | Douglas County | Wyandotte | Miami County | Missouri

2. Help Others Register to Vote

Another way to get involved is to volunteer for nonpartisan organizations that help people register. Some organizations include: Loud Light, Rock the Vote, or When We All Vote. Check out their websites, missions, and volunteer descriptions to learn which organization would work best for you.

3.     Volunteer for a Campaign

Do your research first. If you’ve found a particular candidate that you’re passionate about, you can help them get elected by volunteering for their campaign. After donations, volunteers are one of the biggest needs candidates have. Volunteering could include calling voters and donors, working with social media, helping send out campaign materials, etc. Generally, you can sign up to be a volunteer on a candidate’s website.

Make sure to reflect on your volunteer experience in your Crush the Vote activity log! Let’s Crush the Vote JCCC!

Crush the Vote is a collaboration of JCCC staff, faculty, student groups, and administration to encourage civic engagement, voter registration, and voter education in the 2020 election cycle.  This nonpartisan collaboration is not affiliated with, nor endorses, any political party, candidate, or issue.  Views expressed by individuals participating in Crush the Vote activities do not represent the views of Crush the Vote, Johnson County Community College or its Board of Trustees.
