The Messenger Route: Studying Abroad, A Night Nontraditional Students & Homeschool Student Day

Thinking of Studying Abroad? Options abound

Students at JCCC have a multitude of opportunities to study abroad. Whether students want to take a short trip or spend an entire semester abroad, there are options for them.

One of these options is a short-term program, which can range anywhere from two to eight weeks. These programs usually take place over the summer and do not usually require a student visa. Long-term programs last anywhere from 10 to15 weeks, taking the place of an entire fall or spring semester. They do usually require a student visa and have multiple options all over the world.

Each program has requirements that must be met, which may include a minimum GPA. In general, students need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid U.S. passport that will not expire until at least six months after the program ends.

Before students apply, they should stop by the International Education Office in COM 220 to make an appointment, or email them at studyabroad@jccc.edu.  Students who feel like money may be an issue should not fret. Some programs may be eligible for financial aid. They even offer scholarships to specifically help students make this a reality.

Exploring Educational Opportunities for Nontraditional Students

On Wednesday, March 5, from 5-7 p.m. in the Regnier Center, various educator teams have created an evening for helping nontraditional students learn and access education. Financial access is an obstacle that often sets back students from returning or applying to school. However,  Teams are devoted to helping nontraditional students achieve educational goals.

The Financial Aid Team (focusing on FAFSA) will be available at the start of the event for questions and a presentation. There are many more opportunities, including a drawing to win a $500 JCCC scholarship, receiving credit for prior learning, tips for career changers, personalized support services, connections with nontraditional students and alumni, and more class options and details. Everyone is welcome to attend the March event.

JCCC Hosts Homeschool Student Day

With more than three percent of students learning at home in the United States, smoothing the path from being homeschooled to college becomes more important. That is why on Tuesday March 25, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. is Homeschool Student Day at JCCC, hosted in the Student Center 101. The event is for any homeschooled student and their parents to explore everything our school has to offer. It includes a campus tour with current JCCC students, a chance to learn about admission, academics, student life, and financial aid.

This will also include a panel hosted by homeschooled students who are now attending JCCC. They will hold this panel to share tips on how to transition into a college lifestyle and become a thriving Cavalier.
