Whether you are a member of the queer community, just an ally, or want to learn more about LGBTQ+ groups and involvement on campus, JCCC’s Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is the club for you.
“GSA is open to everyone! Any members who are a part of or allies of the queer community are welcome to join,” Amelia Schwarz, the President of the GSA said. “They can show up to our in-person meetings, join our discord, or both. At every meeting at the end of the month, we take some time to focus on education, discussion, and intersectionality. We focus on everything from black history to native American heritage depending on the month, and take care to make sure our members are engaged and involved every time. We show informational videos, invite guest speakers, and share relevant resources to make sure our members stay informed on issues both inside and outside the queer community.”
In person meetings happen every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in MTC 124, the only requirement for attendance being a support of the LGBTQ+ and its adjacent communities. For those also interested in joining the Discord, you can join at https://discord.gg/frBmPCTTuU.
“Without diversity, so much of the spirit, ideas, and innovation on campus would be gone,” Schwarz said. “Some of the biggest, liveliest events of the year would not be possible without students from a wide variety of different communities coming together. Our community is made better by the diversity of people within it.”
