Sharice Davids’ path to the U.S. House of Representatives began at Johnson County Community College, where she started her higher education journey. Raised by a single mom who served in the Army, Davids became the first in her family to attend college. After her time at JCCC, she transferred to the University of Missouri-Kansas City to earn her bachelor’s degree in business administration, then completed her Juris Doctor at Cornell Law School.

Before running for office, Davids worked in economic and community development on Native American reservations, and served as a White House fellow in the Department of Transportation. In 2018, she made history by becoming one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress and the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected from Kansas.

Davids’ story highlights how JCCC can be the start of a powerful journey. Her commitment to education, hard work, and community serves as an inspiration for current students aiming to make a difference
