JCCC women’s soccer team looks unstoppable
The No. 2-ranked Johnson County women’s soccer team secured three victories this past week, adding 11 goals and 3 clean sheets to its perfect 9-0 record.
The Cavaliers showed depth in their offense, having eight different players hitting the back of the net. The defense continues to dominate, leading the division with seven matches without giving up a goal.
The team’s success can be attributed to key player performances: Sophomore Avery Young, who leads the NJCAA D-II goalkeepers in multiple categories. Sophomore Brecken Hoy leads the team in scoring with eight goals. Freshman Darby Howard has become the team’s playmaker with six assists.
The Cavs returned home Saturday with hopes of extending their winning streak against Pratt Community College, which they did 6-1. They play another away game against Southeast Community College Wednesday Sept. 24 before they host rivals Kansas City Kansas Community College next Saturday Sept. 27.

Men’s soccer splits the week
The Cavaliers men’s soccer team’s roll was slowed a little this week as they split two matches. After losing a road game 2-0 to Neosho County last Wednesday, they bounced back with a home win against Pratt College on Saturday. That leaves the Cavs with a 6-3-1 overall record and 2-1 in conference play.
A big part of that success comes from coach Jeff Cole, who has essentially built this roster from scratch. Sergio Hernandez Marquez, a freshman forward, was recently named NJCAA Division II Player of the Week for his attacking spark, while Daniel Wozniak, a freshman goalkeeper, claimed Goalkeeper of the Week honors after anchoring the defense during a three-game shutout stretch.
