Student life events don’t just appear overnight. The Student Activities Department organizes events around campus to get students involved, such as the student life table that is set up by the Pop-Up Team every two weeks in high-traffic areas around campus. The table features resource and event flyers, JCCC pens, highlighters, gum, and even snacks.
The Pop-Up team, which is the first of its kind at JCCC, is a part of the Student Activities Department with Ashley Calibo as the Chairman. “The purpose of the booth is to be the bridge between the student and the resources,” Calibo said.
The booth aims to teach students that they are not alone. Resources like tutoring, counseling, or career development are available to students, and the booth helps to explain each one to as many students as possible.
Calibo speaks about her struggles finding a good balance between work, life, and school. Using her experience to help others in need of that same balance through the booth. “Having that connection, student-to-student, I see it to be only encouraging and positive,” Calibo said.
So be on the lookout for future pop-up booths around campus all semester!
