Friday is like the preview to the start of the weekend. The club, Called To Greatness, calls it Fun Friday. Every week. club members play all kinds of games during lunch from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Around 10 to 20 students usually show up to play, and you can bring your own games for everyone to enjoy. They also have weekly bible study meetings, with one on Tuesdays at 8 a.m. and two on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Called To Greatness is a local midwest campus ministry that started at Kansas University (KU) 30 years ago. Since then, it has moved to colleges around the midwest area like Kansas State University, Baker University, Washburn University, University of Missouri-Kansas City, William Jewell and Johnson County Community College. You can learn more about the club while attending Fun Fridays.
One student, Ambrose Diefendorf, joined Called To Greatness and attends Fun Fridays every Friday.
“I felt the Lord call me into ministry,” he says about why he joined the club.
Everyone participating has become friends through gaming and ministry.
“There was no sense of community. I have found it’s really hard to build community here. So after some brainstorming, I started Fun Fridays,” said the President of Called To Greatness, Burton Gepford, when asked why he started the event.
Fun Fridays has grown into a small community of students who enjoy playing any kind of game they can find.
