Women’s Soccer Team End Regular Season with a Thumping
Southeast Community College Women’s Soccer team has had this nightmare before. After a 22-0 dismantling at the hands of JCCC Women’s Soccer in September, surely the Bobcats did not experience another Cav-alanche last weekend, did they?
No. The Cavs merely won 18-0.
Last match Flo Rigby dropped 5 goals on Southeast, this time it was just a regular hat trick, along with three assists. That gave Rigby 28 goals in 19 matches and her fifth hat trick of the season. It was a hat trick of hat tricks, actually, as sophomore Darb Howard and freshman Grace Bradley also added three goals each.
It was Rigby’s second trio of goals last week, after also hitting the back of the net three times against Pratt Community College last Wednesday. Final score: 3-0.
The team ended the regular season with 8 straight wins and a perfect 10-0 record in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Following a week of rest, next up is seeding for regional playoffs, followed by an anticipated trip back to the Div. II national championships.
Men Wrap Up the Season with a Tie
The JCCC Men’s Soccer team finished the regular season with its fourth draw, this time 2-2 against Southeastern College on Saturday. Earlier in the week, JCCC won its third straight against Pratt with a 2-0 decision.
In the Southeastern match, JCCC bounced back from an early goal and grabbed the lead 2-1 thanks to sophomore Khoi Woods’ goal at the 40-minute mark. Early in the second half, however, Southeastern tied it up with the last goal of the match. Cristiano Palacios Guerrero started JCCC’s scoring with his tenth goal of the season, which led the team.
More Tournament Time for Women’s Volleyball
The JCCC Women’s Volleyball team was on the road again last weekend, this time in the Sunshine state at the Pensacola Premier Tournament. The Cavs headed back to Kansas 2-1 in the tournament, after sweeping Enterprise State and Pensacola State on Friday night.
Saturday’s match against Gulf Coast State (20-6) was like a level up for the Cavs. After dropping the first set 25-16, the Cavs battled hard, but dropped set two 25-20. JCCC righted the ship with a 28-26 nail-biter in the third set before falling to the Commodores 25-21 in the fourth, dropping the match 3-1. The loss came despite Ava Esser and Sydney Rogokos being their usual awesome selves, combining for 37 kills, while Kennedie Witthaus added 27 digs to her team-leading 433 for the season.
Earlier in the week, JCCC took care of business by dispatching crosstown rival Kansas City Kansas Community College 3-0.
The Cavs head to the Highland for a conference match on Thursday before a home tune-up match against McPherson College JV on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
