Men’s and Women’s Basketball Remain Unbeaten In Different Ways

It was a good week for Cavs basketball, as both the men’s and women’s teams were victorious to stay undefeated.

The men scored a close 61-57 win over Kansas City Kansas Community College that was too close to comfort. A surprise that could show some cracks just as tournament time gets close.

The first half was not the best showing, as by the end of it the Cavs trailed by 11.  The Cavs had a difficult time keeping pace as KCKCC scored 12 off the fast break.

Ultimately, during the dying breath of the game, the Cavs would go on a 15-4 run to stay perfect. The men then beat Labette Community College on Saturday in another tight game, 66-56, to move to 26-0.

Women’s basketball also stays undefeated, but with blowout wins: 76-50 against KCKCC and 93-62 against Labette . Their KCKCC matchup was never close from the first quarter on, and the Cavs held a solid lead throughout. The offensive strategy was apparent as 48 pts came in the paint.

On Wednesday, the men face Fort Scott Community College at home.  Fort Scott holds a record of 14-11 and a conference record of 5-3. They are coming off close losses to Neosho County and Allen County.  During their last encounter with the Cavs, it was a blowout loss for Fort Scott.

Also on Wednesday, the women’s team will be home to take on Fort Scott,  which has only 4 wins to this point.  Last time these teams met, it was a 72-43 win for the Cavs.

A Hot Start for JCCC Baseball

Johnson County Community College’s baseball team has made an impressive start to its 2025-2026 season. The Cavaliers have posted a record of 11-1 (.900). The hot start included four straight wins, followed by one loss, and then a seven-game win streak to date.

The Cavaliers started the season  winning a double-header against Amarillo College, scoring 30 runs between both games. The Cavs ended the four-game series by sweeping Amarillo.

High expectations have been set for the 2025-2026 season, following the 2024-2025 season that ended with a 52-13 (.800) record and a NJCAA Division 1 World Series appearance.

Looking forward to next week, JCCC baseball will host Pratt Community College with a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 20, and finish the series Saturday, Feb. 21. Pratt currently sits at 4-2 and has notably lost both times as the visiting team.

With the season ramping up and in full swing, visit the JCCC baseball schedule to  catch a game.
