Inclusion Connections Summer Volunteer Opportunities

New Home Page - Inclusion Connections

The mission of Inclusion Connections is to strengthen the lives of individuals with disabilities by creating inclusive opportunities for community involvement, access to meaningful employment, and better options for supported living.

PawsAbilities - Inclusion Connections

One way that they fulfill their mission is through their PawsAbilities program. Employment is the pathway to independence and helps define one’s place in community life. Through working at PawsAbilities, trainees learn skills like operating commercial kitchen equipment, operating a cash register, cleaning and janitorial tasks, sewing, baking, packaging, inventory, and customer service. Trainees run the Olathe PawsAbilities retail store and the mobile pop-up store which visits local businesses and events.

This summer, you can help at Inclusion Connections through mentoring or helping out at PawsAbilities by cutting fabric or sewing dog bandanas. Click here to learn more.

Virtual Volunteering at the Smithsonian

Smithsonian Transcription CenterLooking for virtual volunteer opportunities you can do from the comfort of your home? Look no further than the Smithsonian!

The Smithsonian Transcription Center seeks to engage the public in making their collections more accessible. They work hand-in-hand with digital volunteers to transcribe historic documents and collections records to facilitate research and inspire learning in everyone.

Started in 2013, the Transcription Center is a website connecting volunteers around the world with Smithsonian collections. This crowdsourcing project was developed as a collaborative way to digitally enable and increase public engagement with Smithsonian materials, increase access and use of their digitized content, and create pathways of learning and new knowledge between the public and Smithsonian staff.

The Smithsonican Transcription Center | Crowdsourcing Document Transcription | CitizenScience.gov

In short–the Transcription Center is a place for you (and anyone in the world) to explore materials held within the Smithsonian and play a part in making those collections more accessible. They are actively seeking volunteers to join their community. With your help, we can make the vast collections in art, history, and science more accessible to anyone with a curious spirit, and truly create “One Smithsonian, Digital First.”

Virtual Volunteer Fair Day 5!

Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

The Nerman Museum Student Advisory Committee assists Museum educators with program planning and outreach. These positions are open to high school and college students. Visitor service assistants engage with contemporary art and artists while welcoming students and visitors during gallery hours or special events. Volunteers currently attend virtual training sessions while the galleries are closed, readying for when we reopen. Click here to apply!

Harvesters

Harvesters is a food bank that serves 26 counties of northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. We provide food and household products to a network of more than 760 partner agencies.

Volunteers make a BIG difference in a little bit of time. Whether you sort food, pack meals for kids and seniors, or help at a community event, your kindness impacts many in our community!

If you are healthy and able, please join us! Shifts are available Tuesday – Saturday. Click here to find an opportunity perfect for you!

City Union Mission

Currently due to COVID protocol, City Union Mission is not allowing any “General” volunteering or Meal Services until further notice. They will allow outside volunteering once the weather allows for early spring landscaping and other outdoor projects.

Currently, they need HI Impact Volunteering where the volunteer  works directly with the clients they serve. It is a recurring role and has an extensive application and back ground check. This includes mentors and educational assistants in the men’s long term program and for the children staying there, as well as drivers to pick up donations. They will be putting out requests for volunteers soon for Summer “City Camp” and  “Camp Cumcito”. For more information, click here.

Volunteer Fair Day 3!

Lawrence Community Shelter

The Lawrence Community Shelter offers safe haven to individuals and families facing homelessness. Our amazing volunteers promote awareness about homelessness, organize donation drives, maintain a community garden, and help with day-to-day operations at the shelter!

NourishKC

NourishKC functions out of the Kansas City Community Kitchen at 750 Paseo. We serve around 500 lunches to community members, with no questions asked, every weekday. The meals we serve are from local Whole Foods and community gardens to ensure a fresh and nutritious meal every day!

Volunteers are a BIG reason 500 meals can be prepared daily! Although we can only have up to six volunteers per shift right now, each volunteer plays a part in helping to end hunger in KC.

Food unites people. NourishKC’s Kansas City Community Kitchen truly is a community where all walks of life collide! It’s a place long-time volunteers return weekly to continue relationships with the kitchen staff and guests. YOU can be a part of this community by signing up to volunteer at here.

Every Thursday at 12:30 p.m., we are posting an ROR-KC Virtual Storytime on all of our social media platforms. Thank you to all of our readers that have participated so far-including KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas, 41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak, Jenny Matthews On-Air, Aja James, ROR-KC Board Members, community members and more!
